Does Medicare require a prescription for physical therapy?

We answer this question just about every week. The simple answer is NO!! You do not need a prescription as a Medicare Part B beneficiary for physical therapy. Your therapist will need a signature from a qualified health care provider in order to render services beyond the examination and each facility will handle this a bit differently. At Total Physical Therapy as a Medicare beneficiary we welcome you to have a discussion with our therapists. If a treatment plan is established that includes physical therapy, then we will communicate with your provider's office.
